I watched an Independence Day themed commercial on TV which stated, “Veterans gave us the right to free speech…. Veterans gave us the right to a free press…. Veterans gave us the right to vote…. Veterans gave us civil rights…. etc. etc. etc .” My first thought was NO! … After Texas had declared their independence from Mexico and the set back at the Alamo which helped drive Santa Anna and his forces back to Mexico, the United States annexed Texas. Then the troubles began. …
